the educational object economy (eoe)

eoe.org is a landmark online community exploring issues in technology and learning, open and collaborative development, and sustainability.

founded under an nsf grant in 1997 by jim spohrer (then at apple computer), the eoe serves as an “exemplar site” for community exchange of knowledge objects – in this case, java-based simulations for education.

over 2,000 simulations are freely available through the eoe repository, with contributions from people in many different countries.

since 1998, ed gaible has served as executive director of the eoe. beginning with the jiva java project in faridabad, india, he has guided the eoe in the promotion of:

component software solutions

distributed development of learning resources

participatory processes in technology implementations

online communities for teachers and students

among education systems in developing countries and countries in transition, including turkey (where the eoe site is now mirrored), brazil, and the republic of kazakhstan.
